Rent items from people nearby.

RentLab is a marketplace in Georgia where people rent items to each other. Owners publish a listing and other users rent the item. Rental payments do not go through the platform.

Challenge

Someone who needs an item for a short time often has no reason to buy it, and an owner may rarely use the item they already have. RentLab connects these two sides. It had to let strangers trust each other without taking part in the rental or handling their money.

Solution

Private owners and small businesses publish listings and set their own price in Georgian lari, as an hourly, daily or monthly rate. Renters search the catalogue or the map, filter by city, category and price, and contact the owner. The two people agree the price, period, deposit and handover in the platform’s chat and settle directly between themselves. Trust comes from phone verification, public profiles with listing history, listing moderation, and reviews that only a user who has exchanged messages with the other person can leave.

What it does

  • A catalogue of 11 top-level categories and 72 sub-categories, including camera gear, tools, vehicles and event equipment.
  • Listings can be filtered across 8 Georgian cities, and a map view shows items near the user.
  • Listing an item is free, with optional paid VIP promotion, and no commission is taken from a rental because the platform does not process the payment.
  • The site is published in Georgian, English and Russian.
